The Cyprus High Commission Cultural Section Public Lecture by Ashley Baynton-Williams: The Mapping of Cyprus, 1485–1885, Friday, 25 September 2015, British Library, Conference Centre, 96 Euston Road, London NW1 2DB at 18:15 pm.

Organised in collaboration with The British Library European and American Collections under the auspices of the High Commissioner for the Republic of Cyprus, Euripides L. Evriviades. The lecture will outline (and illustrate) the evolution of the mapping of Cyprus from late medieval times to the first years of the British period, describing the landmarks, the people and the events that shaped the mapping of the island over four centuries. Part of the research material presented has been funded by the Sylvia Ioannou Foundation.

The Institute of History, University of Warsaw (Poland) is looking for post-doctoral candidates to conduct research in History or related fields, and offers assistance in writing grant proposals in Ancient, Medieval or Early Modern History for the POLONEZ funding programme of the Polish National Science Centre.

POLONEZ is a new funding possibility for postdoctoral researchers from outside Poland to conduct 12 or 24-months research projects at a partner institution in Poland. Funding includes salary (c. 3400 EUR gross per month), mobility allowance (c. 250 EUR gross per month), family allowance (c. 250 EUR gross per month) and project funding (80 000 PLN/ c. 20000 EUR per 12 months or 192 000 PLN/ c. 48000 EUR per 24 months, allowing to cover travel costs, buy books, fund a stipend for one PhD student, etc.). The earliest possible date of starting the project is September 2016.
