INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM: Byzantium and the Arab World: Encounter of Civilizations
Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, in cooperation with the Hellenic Ministry of Culture and Tourism, organizes in Thessaloniki from 16 to 18 December 2011, an International Symposium under the title: «Byzantium and the Arab World: Encounter of Civilizations». This event falls within the initiative “Cultural Crossroads” held by the Hellenic Ministry of Culture and Tourism. The initiative aims at planning and organizing a series of events by the cultural and creative agents of Thessaloniki, strengthening thus the cultural profile of Thessaloniki and highlighting the city’s extrovert character.

The Organizing Committee sends out a Call for Participation to the International Symposium. Interested parties are invited to submit the completed Entry Form by August 29, 2011 and a summary in English (up to 300 words) and send both of them in .doc and .pdf format at: Additional information available here.


Palaeography, Humanism and Manuscript Illumination in Renaissance Italy: A Conference in Memory of A. C. de la Mare – 17-19 November 2011

Oxford Medieval Graduate Conference: Meat: Aspects and Approaches. Oxford 13-14 April 2012
The conference is aimed at early career scholars and graduate students working in medieval and early modern studies. It is intended that a volume of proceedings comprising selected papers will appear in the Medium Ævum Monographs Series. Contributions are welcomed from diverse fields of research such as history of art and architecture, history, theology, philosophy, anthropology, literature and history of ideas. Papers should be a maximum of 20 minutes. Please email 250-word abstracts (text only, no attachments please) to<> by 10th January 2012.

The registration fee is expected to be £12. We hope to organize a conference banquet in Lincoln’s hall on the Friday night and will provide details of this as soon as they are available; it is hoped that this will cost in the region of £20.
